Ensuring that attorneys bring their best to the practice means clients and those we serve will get the maximum benefits of the years of attorneys' service, experience, knowledge and skills. The panel will discuss the applicable ethics rules and opinions and provide practical tips and guidance for balancing well-being with legal practice. In recent years, we have seen a shift in attitude among lawyers regarding the practice of our craft. While many lawyers have shown an interest in retirement or changing fields, the legal profession includes an increasing number of attorneys at or nearing senior status that, as a result of a number of factors, including practitioners living longer; lawyers opting to work longer; and a significant number of law school graduates and new lawyers deciding to embark on non-legal careers has resulted in an aging of the profession. With health factors such as those that can occur naturally with aging, lawyers must be mindful of ethical considerations and rules and the self-care that ties into our professional responsibility that governs our work.
