During this 3-hour program, seasoned panelists will focus on these topics:
- Developments and Protections in Consumer Payments: This presentation focuses on a variety of current consumer payments issues, and what rights and protections may apply. Special focus will be on the Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA); payment issues under the Truth in Lending Act (TILA); and considerations for faster payments, subscriptions, and other emergent areas. Attendees will also learn about cases and examples of unfair and deceptive practices, along with various protections under the EFTA, TILA, FTC's Holder Rule, FTC's Negative Option Rule, as well as resources for protections and remedies. (1 hour)
- 10-minute break
- Military Lending Act: This block of instruction provides a basic overview of the Military Lending Act (MLA). Practitioners will learn how to assess a consumer transaction or account for MLA implications. Information on public enforcement matters will also be presented. Practitioners will receive information on available MLA resources, most notably, the resources housed within the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. (30 minutes)

- Consumer Fraud: Attendees will learn about the U.S. Department of Justice's role in combating fraud against the military community, including an introduction to the DOJ's Consumer Protection Branch (CPB) and Servicemember and Veterans Initiative (SVI) mission. This session will discuss the effect of fraud on servicemembers and their families, case studies and examples, and preventing fraud that targets the military community. (30 minutes)

- Current Scams: This presentation will discuss scams targeting and impacting the military community, including a variety of imposter scams, bank and military payroll imposters, and scams related to online security, online romance, and investments. This will also consider the FTC's data illustrating the scope of the scam problem, how scams are evolving, the warning signs of scams, scammers' evolving use of cryptocurrency and AI, and the FTC's resources to help servicemembers, veterans, and their families. (1 hour)
