This panel will provide a range of perspectives on the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment and related incidents. The panel will discuss how to effectively advising clients when significant environmental emergencies occur, including working with federal, state and local governments, responding to NGO campaigns and preparation for potential litigation.
Panel attendees will briefly learn about the background of the incident, learn about emergency management and response obligations from various party perspectives, and hear from experts in the field on how more effectively advise clients who experience significant environmental emergencies. This includes reporting and response legal obligations, effective coordination with government agencies and preparation for anticipated litigation. Attendees will learn about: i) the emergency response legal obligations; ii) the roles of government agencies, NGOs, plaintiff tort lawyers, and local communities when an environmental emergency occurs; and iii) advising clients during and after an significant environmental emergency occurs.
