The practice of law is a fast-paced, demanding profession that requires constant interaction and management of people. Yet lawyers are consistently ranked among the loneliest professionals. This isolation has only been exacerbated over the past three years by pandemic-related changes that were forced upon the legal profession. The "return to normal" must include a reckoning with the struggles and trauma of being a lonely lawyer. As we move forward from the pandemic, lawyers must learn to cultivate self-care to better serve their clients. This course helps lawyers learn why relationships are the key to improved well-being.
When it comes to well-being, relationships might just be the most important practice to master. Just think about what sustains you when life gets rough. Think about what will matter most when you look back on your life. For most of us, the answer is simple. It's not work, money, or status. It's the care and connection we share with our friends, family, and coworkers.
The course will focus on the importance of social connections and the link between loneliness and diminished well-being. It will also provide opportunities to practice and integrate multiple resiliency skills including gratitude, compassion, and presence to help lawyers not only survive but thrive in practice.
