The Lobbying Manual: A Complete Guide to Federal Lobbying Law and Practice, Sixth Edition
This program will review ongoing challenges to the independence of Immigration Judges. We will review the systemic flaws in the structure of the Immigration Court system, currently housed in the U.S. Department of Justice, which raise questions about the ability of the immigration administrative judiciary to provide due process. We will cover proposals for restructuring to correct the flaws, comparing the variety of structures of Article I and other administrative courts. We will also discuss the intersectionality with administrative adjudication in general.

Zig zagging through independence issues - is the experience of Immigration Judges a cautionary tale or a model for administrative adjudication? Our panel will discuss many topics including: occasions of egregious interference with decision-making, the structural problems affecting due process, and how docket measures imposed by management have not slowed the exponential growth of the backlog. In addition, the panel will cover: comparison with other administrative adjudicatory structures, the Article I solution, and implications for administrative adjudication, generally. At the end of the program, attendees will:
National Association of Women Judges, Thomson Reuters, Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice, Immigration, International Law Section, Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice, Judicial Division
