Join members of the ABA Task Force on Cryptocurrency Tax for the timely webinar addressing what to do about 2022 cryptocurrency losses. With bankruptcies of several cryptocurrency-related business, steep declines in the value of some cryptocurrencies, and arguable wrongdoings relating to the loss of crypto assets, many taxpayers will want to claim crypto-related losses on their income tax returns. This webinar explores the nature of those losses and how existing rules operate with respect to worthlessness, abandonment, theft, and declines in value. Areas of uncertainty--such as whether virtual currency can be abandoned--will also be addressed. And we'll walk through relevant Code sections to help understand the nature of certain crypto losses that can trigger unusable losses without timely tax planning.

Annette N. Nellen, San Jose State University
Jamison Sites, PwC
Matthew A. Stevens, EY
