Project management (PM) firms have become commonplace on construction sites, but their roles, authority, and responsibilities have evolved and are often ambiguous or misunderstood. How well-qualified are today's PM firms in light of these changes? Are PM's adding value? How has the involvement of PM firms changed the relationships among the project participants? The panel will address these questions, plus recent legal developments about the risks and liabilities of the PM role, which increase the importance of proper selection and contracting methods for overall project success. How can lawyers use clients' project planning techniques? This session will explore best practices for managing cases from inception through settlement/judgment; developing meaningful budgets for clients; building and managing staff; marshalling e-discovery; and scheduling the case to on-time and on-budget completion.
