Model Rules of Professional Conduct, 2024 Edition
The ABA's 2021 Legal Technology Survey Report revealed a striking statistic. 25% of the survey's respondents reported that their law firm's computer system had been breached at some time. Clearly, law firms are an attractive target for cybercriminals - this CLE will teach you your ethical obligations for how to protect your confidential data and how to respond should you have a data breach.

Law firms are increasingly being targeted by hackers and cybercriminals. With so much sensitive information at risk and few technological hurdles to stop them, it is up to attorneys to learn how to stop them! This session will review your ethical duties to be competent with technology and to protect your confidential files and your client's confidential data.
This session will teach you the importance of and the need for cybersecurity awareness training for attorneys and other law firm employees by applying the model rules of professional conduct. (Model Rules 1.1, 1.6, 5.1, and 5.3) We'll explore how clients and cyberinsurance companies are driving cybersecurity requirements and what you need to know to stay ahead of the curve. You'll also learn about the current top two threats to law firms: Ransomware and Business Email Compromise, how to avoid them, and what your ethics obligations require you to do if you fall victim to one.
You'll also learn about the best (and most budget friendly) tools to prevent a data breach, in addition to your ethical reporting requirements and recommended actions to be taken in the event of a data breach.
