In the past decade there has been an increase in the inter-disciplinary study of psychology. Doctors, business leaders and even Baseball GMs have embraced it. Mediators study the psychological and emotional components of disputes and peacemaking. Plaintiff lawyers have tapped into psychology in an effort to enrage juries and increase awards. However, psychology impacts all aspects of the practice of law. This program highlights how cognitive illusions can impede proper decision-making. Mediator Steve Schulwolf discusses techniques that can help mediators ensure that parties fully understand their litigation risks and do not base decisions on heuristics. Litigation consultant Shari Belitz discusses how trial lawyers can hone their skills with a greater understanding of psychology.
