Corporate Director's Guidebook, Eighth Edition
Companies that dismiss the Internet of Things risk getting left behind. Everyday physical objects that surround us are transforming into an ecosystem of information, and businesses and their lawyers need to understand the pitfalls and opportunities. In this program we will focus on privacy, data ownership and security concerns through two use cases: connected cars and connected health care devices. Use Cases will provide specifics from varying viewpoints; including communications providers, manufacturers, business partners and other stakeholders. We will review the legal and regulatory landscape and the cutting-edge issues where technology is getting ahead of the law, including in the areas of consumer consent, control of data and security risks. We will provide a checklist of potential pitfalls and risks associated with the use of connected devices to assist the general business lawyer in advising clients, as well as suggestions for mitigation actions to manage risk and predictions for legal developments and the future of our interaction with connected products.
