This webinar will help lawyers recognize abusive situations and their sources so that they can identify the appropriate legal and other remedies for dementia patients and their families. In particular, the panelists will describe the various kinds of obvious and subtle elder abuse inflicted by family members as well as third parties, including financial abuse, that have legal and other implications. They will then discuss the questions that should be asked to identify elder abuse and the legal or other remedies to stop the abuse.
The panel will include a judge who handles cases of this kind, the Public Guardian of Cook County to discuss the kinds of abusive situations he sees, the spouse of a female attorney who was diagnosed with early dementia in her late 30s and passed away earlier this year at age 51 and a psychiatrist who will discuss the criminal aspects of persons with dementia and speak of specific cases where persons with dementia were convicted of criminal offenses.
