      ABA Model Rule 5.5, and the corresponding rules in the 50 states, pertain to the Unauthorized Practice of Law and the Multijurisdictional Practice of Law. How do we determine whether our actions comply with the rules? Is there a disconnect between the rules and the practice of law during the pandemic? Questions the panel will examine include:

      • Where can you practice?
      • How long can you practice in a given jurisdiction?
      • Do real world realities match with the ethical rules?
      • Are there ethical grey areas and if so, what are they?
      • Have you already unknowingly engaged in the unauthorized practice of law?

      The panel will include Eric Cooperstein, a Minneapolis lawyer whose practice is devoted to representing lawyers in legal ethics matters, and Lynda Shely, owner of The Shely Firm PC, who provides ethics advice to law firms in Arizona and the District of Columbia. The discussion will be moderated by Robin Wolpert, a business litigator, white collar criminal defense attorney, and appellate practitioner at Sapientia Law Group in Minneapolis.
