- Hon. Charles R. Breyer (USDC N.D. Cal.) is one of America's most experienced judges in making creative use of special masters especially in MDL and other complex litigation. The cases over which he has presided include the In re: Volkswagen "Clean Diesel" MDL; In re: McKinsey & Company, Inc., National Prescription Opiate Consultant Litigation (MDL No. 2996) and In re: German Automotive Manufacturers Antitrust Litigation.
- Hon J. Michelle Childs (USDC D. S.C.) is the Immediate Past Chair of the ABA Judicial Division, Chair-Elect of the Federal Judges Association and personally participated in the Working Group that drafted the ABA Guidelines.
- Kenneth R. Feinberg is one of, if not the, best know special masters in the country, responsible for the funds that provided compensation to victims of 9/11, the BP Oil spill, and the Boston Marathon bombings among many others.
- Deborah Greenspan has served as special master for over 30 years. Among her more recent cases are the Flint Water litigation, and the litigation from the bombings of the U.S. Embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam. She also chairs the Dispute Resolution Committee of the Torts, Trials and Insurance Practice Section and serves as the Treasurer of the Academy of Court-Appointed Masters.
- Merril Hirsh is the Chair of the ABA Judicial Division Lawyers Conference Special Masters Committee, the Convener of the Working Group that drafted the Guidelines and is now Executive Director of the Academy of Court-Appointed Masters.
