The Biden administration’s ambitious goal to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 will require an “all of U.S. economy and society” approach. Replacing and remaking our crumbling infrastructure, deploying clean energy technology, and reshaping the way we move and manufacture will require broad policy changes across all sectors and facets of the U.S. economy. Will Congress create a national clean energy standard to electrify transportation and what will it look like? What policies will best harness the immutable physics of energy production, transmission, and distribution to achieve net-zero emissions? What role will the private sector play and how will it meet stringent emissions reductions goals? This panel will discuss the Biden administration’s policy priorities and the legal mechanisms needed to implement them without creating new environmental and social burdens in the name of addressing our existing issues.
