Group Homes: Strategies for Effective and Defensible Planning and Regulation
A long history of racism and inequality in the policing of America continues to result in injuries and deaths to members of marginalized communities. The pursuit of justice for these victims of excessive and lethal force is often hampered by systemic forces that resist criminal prosecution of law enforcement, the use of the doctrine of qualified immunity, and laws that shield police officers and municipalities from civil liability.

The Biden Administration and states across the country have signaled their intent to reinvigorate federal policing oversight and push for impactful reforms. Our interdisciplinary panel of lawyers and non-lawyer experts will discuss systemic challenges and efforts to overcome a legal system that in many ways fails in its mission to provide justice to all people. The panel will also highlight examples of successful reforms, from legislation to internal policy to practice, designed to help minimize the harm to our diverse communities, and ensure law enforcement is held accountable when citizens are deprived of their constitutional rights.
