Wildlife Law and Ethics: A U.S. Perspective
The Biden Administration has placed unprecedented emphasis on environmental justice at the same time the ABA is considering a new resolution on EJ, the first update to its policy since 1993. Such action is warranted and overdue in the wake of significant examples of disadvantaged communities confronting disproportionate burdens of environmental harms.

The tragedy in Flint, Michigan is among the latest in a series of events impacting vulnerable communities, and the risks of climate change disruption pose real threats of disproportionate harms to communities who did not contribute to the causes of climate change. With the Administration's "all of government" approach to EJ, the focus on addressing harms for underrepresented communities and providing for meaningful participation in decision making will impact many areas of the laws and law practices. This growing focus also will create new opportunities for lawyers to address EJ in diverse practice areas, as well as new considerations in advising companies on a wide range of decisions impacting EJ communities to avoid impacts, remedy harms, and ensure meaningful participation in decision making. This panel of distinguished speakers and EJ champions will provide context for how EJ is rapidly emerging as a driving force for decision making across government and commercial development and impacting the role of the lawyer in advising their clients on projects impacting EJ communities and advocating for addressing harms.
