A Guide to Business Inclusion Programs in Government Contracting: U.S. Federal, State, and Local Programs and Laws
Multiple large-scale studies have shown that fee earners in small law firms are billing, on average, only 2 hours per day and this number has decreased over time. Most attorneys also spend 10+ hours per day working in the office or remotely. So, where are those billable hours being lost?

Small law firms and their staff play a very important role within our communities, yet on average they are only billing for only 25-30% of their day. How are firms to provide a great service, produce good results, and build great businesses when there is a fundamental problem with the unit economics of what they do?
The fundamental landscape of billing has changed: The work attorneys perform has become increasingly more complex. Communication expectations from clients have risen substantially as the methods of communication have expanded far beyond a simple phone call. Most attorneys have a mixture of fixed-fee, hourly rates and contingency billing, which may vary by case or by associate. It's becoming more difficult to see whether fixed-fee work is profitable.
As the backbone of our communities, attorneys cannot be left without solution or improvement. Law firms need to understand what they are up against, commit to implementing change, and increase their billables. Change is hard but ignoring the problem will not make it disappear.
In this program, we will review what we call the "Small Law Firm Billing Problem" in more detail. After this session, you will walk away with concrete steps to apply to your business so you can appropriately and confidently bill for the work you perform every day. Please note that this webinar does not discuss or advocate specific billing software programs. Instead, recognizing and evaluating the small firm billing problems as well as processes you can implement to create efficiencies and standards will be provided.
