Numerous stakeholdersconsumers, shareholders, investors, state attorneys general, supply chain contractors, law studentsare increasingly focused on corporate contributions and vulnerabilities to climate change. The requirements and enforcement of voluntary disclosure regimes (such as the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosure) and mandatory disclosure regimes (under federal securities laws and state consumer protection laws) are evolving rapidly with respect to information related to climate change in response. This panel will highlight developments in voluntary and mandatory disclosure relating to climate change, consider the increasing role and responsibilities of lawyers advising clients in this space, and evaluate how transparency and, more broadly, private climate governance can contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Opening Remarks:
Allison Herren Lee , Commissioner, Securities and Exchange Commission, Washington, DC
