This panel will discuss SDM, a less restrictive alternative to guardianship that allows older adults and individuals with disabilities to make their own decisions, with the support of people they trust, terminate guardianships and restore an individual's right to make their own decisions. Attendees will learn how to assess a case for rights restoration, collect evidence to demonstrate your client's capacity, and craft arguments to present SDM as a less restrictive alternative to guardianship.

Registrants of the webinar will be able to:

    1. List three questions to ask a client under guardianship during an intake to assess a case for SDM.
    2. Provide an example of a case where SDM would be an appropriate less restrictive alternative to guardianship.
    3. Describe one strategy for using SDM in restoration of rights and/or termination of guardianship cases.
    4. Provide an example of evidence that can be used in a restoration of rights and/or termination of guardianship proceeding.
