Closed Captioned.
This ethics CLE panel discussion will address recent trends and topics in legal ethics, especially how they relate to the practice of law for the transactional attorney. In particular, the panel will discuss the implications of ABA Model Rule 1.2, as addressed in ABA Formal Op. 491, on the transactional lawyer's duty to investigate and dig deeper into the client's identify and the clients purposes when the attorney knows (or reasonably should know) that his/her services are being used by a client for criminal or fraudulent purposes. The panel will also discuss ABA Model Rule 8.4(g)'s prohibition in engaging in conduct the lawyer knows (or reasonably should know) is harassment or discrimination in conduct related to the practice of law and how ABA Formal Op. 493 provides guidance on the Rule.
