On August 3, 2020, the ABA House of Delegates adopted Resolution 301A which "Urges governments to enact legislation to eliminate or substantially curtail the defense of qualified immunity in civil actions brought against law enforcement officers and Resolution 116A, which "encourages the collection of records and data on use of deadly force, another flashpoint in the national debate over police brutality and racial injustice." Qualified immunity has been hotly debated for years, but awareness of this issue has highlighted in 2020 due to the untimely deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
This webinar will discuss the history of qualified immunity, its impact on litigation involving police departments and its future considering proposed changes to policing in our country. Litigators who represent police departments and municipalities, as well as attorneys who prosecute claims on behalf of aggrieved parties will benefit from participation in this program.
