On the eve of another national election, the regulated community is faced with the possibility of another pendulum swing in environmental policy . . . or not. This panel will examine the implications of national and state-level shifts in environmental policy, in particular how regulated entities develop compliance strategies that are comprehensive and flexible enough to deal with the potential for regulatory changes every four-year election cycle. Panelists will discuss specific environmental programs—such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and Endangered Species Act—that have undergone significant changes during the past several election cycles. They will also consider the potential for another swing of the pendulum with the upcoming national election and what this means for compliance programs, operations, and long-term planning. Attendees will learn how high-level environmental policy and regulatory changes impact day-to-day compliance and implementation decisions by the regulated community.
