Panelists will include a state regulatory commissioner. Among other things, the panelists will discuss local laws prohibiting utility connections and some states' bans of the same as well as federal, state and local laws that apply to interstate natural gas pipelines. The expert panelists will discuss how the intersection of law, legal policy and market conditions on the one hand have driven the increased reliance on natural gas to support renewable energy sources and on the other hand, pressure to reduce or eliminate natural gas as a source of carbon emissions. The panel will also cover how these conflicting objectives are being addressed by new laws and regulations affecting gas distribution systems, customer choice, rates, investments and grid reliability. Join this program to learn and understand: the basic overlap of federal, state and local laws affecting companies in the natural gas industry as well as customers; the legal challenges facing certain asset owners that are emerging as a result of emissions requirements and how such challenges should be mitigated; identify business opportunities for certain fuel suppliers that are emerging as a result of emission standards and what legal requirements apply; and the legal challenges regulators face as they seek to ensure that appropriate infrastructure investments are made in response to the changing mix of generation to ensure that energy supply remains reliable and affordable.
