Family Advocate Summer 2008: Vol. 31, No 1
Family Law's first-ever virtual CLE conference in October 2020 featured 20 hours of web-based CLE on a variety of family law and assisted reproductive technologies topics! We are pleased to offer the programs as on-demand CLE for those who may have missed registration for the live conference. This three-session webinar will give you the opportunity to earn three hours of CLE credit while learning the basics on three important topics in family law: managing mental health experts in a trial, identifying and proving domestic violence in a case, and simplifying client intake in your law practice.

3 Hours General CLE Credit
Program 1: Do You Have a PLAN? How to Manage Mental Health Experts, Their Work, and Their Testimony-Step-by-Step (1 Hour)
Mental health testimony impacts the outcome of many family law cases. But too often, family lawyers get stuck when trying to critique the work of mental health experts, when examining experts in depositions and at trial, and when organizing their legal arguments based on experts' testimony. This program offers the four-step PLAN Model-based in caselaw and psychology's literature-to address these concerns and upgrade your case preparation and presentation.
Presenter:
John A. Zervopoulos, Ph.D., JD, ABPP, PsychologyLaw Partners, Dallas, TX
Program 2: Identifying and Proving Domestic Violence in a Family Law Case (1 Hour)
Family law practitioners must know not only how to identify domestic violence, but also how to present it as part of a case. The panelists will discuss patterns, issue spotting, and how to counsel clients who may or may not present as domestic violence survivors. Panelists will then give a judicial perspective on how to effectively present a case, as well as a litigator's perspective on how to prepare the case from the very beginning.
Presenters:
Jasmine R. McKinney, Esq., Swedish Match, Richmond, VA (Moderator)
Tonya J. Turner, Esq., Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, Washington, D.C.
Program 3: Seven Steps to Simplify Client Intake (1 Hour)
First impressions are everything, and that's no less true when it comes to client intake - especially in the age of COVID-19. Navigating those first uncertain steps can make an enormous difference in long-term satisfaction, both for the client and the attorney. This panel will cover best practices and new approaches for client intake, setting client expectations, and building your support team for the long haul.
Presenters:
Erin C. Golding, Esq., Burr Law Firm, PLLC, Washington, D.C.
Natalia C. Wilson, Esq., Ain & Bank, P.C., Washington, D.C.
