Closed Captioned. This program will focus on the current impact of the 19th Amendment, and other laws, on elections and our present democracy, as reflected in a recent article by Elizabeth Yang, "Looking at the Nineteenth Amendment through a Twenty-First Century Lens". Elizabeth is a former Deputy Director of the ABA Division of Public Services and President of WStrong LLC. Joining the panel discussion will be Amber Maltbie, an election law attorney with expertise on campaign finance and gender disparity. Amber participated in the legislative effort to allow candidates to use campaign funds for childcare expenses in California. This panel will focus on laws affecting women running for office. It will be moderated by Jason Kaune, the program chair of the Standing Committee on Election Law, who counsels public and private sector clients nationally on political and government ethics laws and is a local elected official.
The ABA Standing Committee on Election law presents this program as part of the commemoration of the centennial of womens right to vote by the ABA. The ABA Commission on the 19th Amendment has developed a range of resources to assist lawyers, educators and civic organizations the opportunity to educate the public about the importance of promoting the full and equal exercise of the right to vote and to participate in our democracy.
