Closed Captioned. In a matter of months, the word "coronavirus" became a household term. Without a doubt, the legal and insurance markets will feel the impact of the virus for years to come. This can already be seen by the flood of coverage lawsuits against insurance carriers for denials of business interruption claims, a number of lawsuits against financial institutions for disparate treatment of businesses in connection with PPP funds, and various employment lawsuits.
However, the impact of COVID-19 on future legal malpractice claims remains to be seen. Although there have not been many, if any, malpractice claims filed directly tied to coronavirus yet, a review of longitudinal studies of claims history yields good information on the source and timing of future claims.
