raymond L. ocampo Jr., past scitech chair, to receive spirit of excellence award
by ruth hill bro

Raymond L. Ocampo Jr., Chair of the ABA Section of Science & Technology Law from 2001-2002, has been selected to receive the Spirit of Excellence Award in 2010 at the ABA Midyear Meeting in Orlando. This prestigious award is bestowed by the ABA’s Commission on Racial & Ethnic Diversity in the Profession. Please contact Aracely Munoz Petrich at (312) 988-5638 for information to order tickets to attend this event .

The Spirit of Excellence Awards celebrate the efforts and accomplishments of lawyers who work to promote a more racially and ethnically diverse legal profession. Awards are presented to lawyers who excel in their professional settings; who personify excellence on the national, state, or local level; and who have demonstrated a commitment to racial and ethnic diversity in the legal profession.  The award motto is: “Ad Astra per Aspera – To the Stars through Difficulty.” This honor is only given to a handful of exceptional individuals each year, and Ray is now joining their ranks.
Ray is richly deserving of this recognition, as he has been a true pioneer in promoting diversity in both law and business, in addition to being a valued leader in our Section, a champion for diversity through his work on the ABA's Commission on Women in the Profession and Commission on Racial & Ethnic Diversity in the Profession, and a member of the  ABA Journal Board of Editors.  Ray's success is truly a reflection of his innumerable talents, hard work, and ability to connect with everyone fortunate enough to know him.
I hope you will join me in attending the Spirit of Excellence Awards Luncheon at the 2010 ABA Midyear Meeting in Orlando on Saturday, February 6th to cheer Ray on as he accepts his award.   In the meantime, please join me in congratulating Ray on this stellar achievement.
