Group and Committee News
The Charitable Planning and Organizations Group has continued its popular quarterly membership calls featuring well-known speakers covering topics of interest in the area. Recent speakers have included Professor Chris Hoyt covering recent developments and Shea Airey, winner of the 2009 RPTE Writing Competition, discussing conservation easements. The next call is scheduled for April 20th at noon central time and will feature Ramsay Slugg, from the National Wealth Strategies group at U.S. Trust. Ramsay will present findings from the Bank of America Study of High Net Worth Philanthropy. The Group has also recently submitted two sets of comments to the IRS. One set is on the proposed regulations on Type III supporting organizations; and one set is on the impact of IRC Section 2511(c) on charitable remainder trusts. An excellent CLE program is lined up for the Spring Symposia on May 6th and 7th in Philadelphia, including a presentation on drafting for and enforcing restricted charitable gifts, good governance for private foundations and the proposed regulations for Type III supporting organizations.
