Partnering with our Neighbors to the North
|LPM is a co-sponsor of the 2nd annual Pacific Legal Technology Conference to be held November 7, 2003, in Vancouver, British Columbia. The conference features 18 hours of bottom-line, practical educational courses, in multiple tracks, on how lawyers, legal administrators, legal assistants, researchers, and legal IT staff can use legal technology to achieve demonstrable results that impact the bottom line. Attendees can attend the mock trial that will demonstrate how technology can be applied at all points during a trial -- from the Opening, to Direct and Cross-Examination, to the Jury Summation. This mock trial will take place before a British Columbia Supreme Court judge and a jury composed of law students -- who will offer their own insights on what worked and didn't work -- following the rendering of the verdict. |

Tip of the Month: The Power of a Right-click
In many programs various options or features are available with a simple right mouse click, including formatting and configuration settings. These options and features are "context sensitive" -- in other words, you will be presented with a list of choices that are relevant to the item, field, or text you are right-clicking on. For example, in Outlook, right-clicking on an e-mail in the Inbox presents options to Open, Print, Reply, Reply All, Forward, etc. Right-clicking on a blank spot on your calendar will allow you create new appointments and configure the calendar. You can right-click on almost everything -- try it!
Another good use of the right-click is when you locate a PDF or other file on the Internet you want to download to your computer rather than opening it at the source. To download the file, right-click on the link or icon and then select "Save Target As."

Seize a book! LPM's publishing division is the oldest in the ABA, and with more than 85 titles, it is also one of the largest. This month's selection:
Persuasive Computer Presentations: The Essential Guide for Lawyers
by Ann E. Brenden and John D. Goodhue
Persuasive Computer Presentations: The Essential Guide for Lawyers provides lawyers with the tools to create effective computer presentations that can be used during opening statements, direct examination, cross examination, appellate arguments, and at trial. Also covered is how to effectively use computer presentations outside the courtroom for meetings with prospective clients, in-house presentations and marketing, seminars, office meetings, electronic meetings, mediation, and presentations before trial.
A CD-ROM containing five sample presentations is included with the book, including those presentations referred to in the book, containing over 250 slides in all.
