From the Chair, Micah U. Buchdahl
Micah U. BuchdahlSpring may be my favorite season, one of rebirth and renewal (not to mention the Final Four and baseball opening day). Our upcoming LPM Spring Meeting in Las Vegas provides the perfect venue for getting involved with the Section. This year, we are providing a full slate of CLE programming, to go with our business meetings and unbeatable networking opportunities. If you do not already have plans to be there, I encourage you to reconsider and join us in a few weeks at The Palazzo. Between planning for the second half of the current bar year and setting the groundwork for the fall, this is the meeting to attend.

At the end of March, LPM welcomed Pamela McDevitt as its new staff director. Coming to us from the New York State Bar Association, Pam brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will only help further elevate the features and benefits we provide to our membership. In just a few short weeks, she has already had a positive impact on all of us. Read more about Pam in the electronic edition of Law Practice magazine – offered exclusively to LPM members.

Please remember to take advantage of all of the excellent benefits that come with your LPM membership, and read more about what's happening in the Section in this newsletter. And if there is something we are not doing that you are seeking, please do not hesitate to give us a shout.

ABA TECHSHOW 2010 Board (l to r): Paul J. Unger (Vice Chair), Reid Trautz, Britt Lorish Knuttgen, Judge Herbert Dixon, Debbie Niesen Foster (Chair), Dominic Jaar, Browning Marean, Brett Burney, Ben M. Schorr.

Questions got answered during another successful ABA TECHSHOW held in Chicago, March 25-27, 2010. Attendance for the 24th annual event grew from last year, indicating the high value legal professionals continue to place on keeping current with emerging technologies that affect their businesses and “awesome networking” opportunities! Here are some of the highlights:

  • The Keynote Address by Ari Kaplan
  • Read more from a session panel that tackled questions about the ethics of legal marketing online, and how existing rules of professional conduct might apply to future technological innovations.
  • E-Discovery experts and audience members kicked around more than half dozen hypothetical scenarios at a program on the kinds of issues that can come up when electronically stored information is offered as evidence.

Mark your calendar for the 25th anniversary of ABA TECHSHOW in 2011. It will take place April 11-13, 2011, at the Hilton Chicago!

ABA Women Rainmakers
ABA Women RainmakersThe first edition of the ABA Women Rainmakers monthly member e-newsletter went out March 23rd to all committee members. Responding to feedback given in a survey conducted in January 2010, the ABA Women Rainmakers Planning Committee gathered its active volunteer base and developed content to communicate with and engage all members of this special LPM group. The monthly e-mail will provide members with news on various issues related to women in the role of rainmaking as well as provide information on committee activities such as the upcoming Mid-Career Workshop in Washington D.C. in October.
