Beware of the Salesperson’s Pitch

A computer consultant can help you decide what hardware will meet your firm’s technological needs and budget. The reason to hire a consultant rather than relying on the advice of a salesperson is that a consultant wants your system to be installed and working properly, and has no real alliance to any one manufacturer or supplier. Consultants want what is in the best interests of your firm; they will not steer you toward machines that are inappropriate for your needs or need to be repaired on a regular basis.

But a computer salesperson at one of those computer "superstores" just wants the sale, and does not really have the knowledge of a consultant who specializes in computers for small businesses or law firms. And who will you call when something goes wrong with your network? The salesperson may be long gone, but your consultant is only a phone call away.
