Free Redline of the Final HIPAA Omnibus Rules
Exclusively for Health Law Section Members

By Deborah C. Hiser, Chair, eHealth, Privacy & Security Interest Group
Brown McCarroll, L.L.P., Austin, TX

AuthorThe Health Law Section, through its eHealth, Privacy & Security Interest Group, is pleased to provide you with a redline of the changes in the final HIPAA omnibus rules which were recently released. Using the redline, you can quickly view how the omnibus rules implicate a particular HIPAA issue. This tool will be invaluable for health lawyers who are working through the implications of the new regulations.

The redline is being offered exclusively to Health Law Section members as a member benefit, enhancing the value of membership in the ABA and the Section. It will be available for purchase by non-members. This is not the end, however, of our educational efforts regarding the HIPAA omnibus rules. A small sampling of what is in store includes:

  • A webinar featuring Sue McAndrew, Deputy Director, Office for Civil Rights, Health Information Privacy, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, "Cutting Through the HIPAA Hype: What You Need to Know About the HITECH Act," with comprehensive training to be held this Friday, January 25 at 12:00pm Eastern. Click here to register now;
  • A special edition of eSource on the HIPAA omnibus rules, which will include valuable summaries, tools, and templates to get you up to speed on the “new” HIPAA – this eSource special edition will likely be published next week;
  • The HITECH Task Force is seeking to identify volunteers with the time and willingness to help deliver articles, sample forms and podcasts covering various aspects of the new rules. Many members have already contributed to development of some of these deliverables, and we have some draft materials which will need to be updated and finalized. To participate, please contact Simeon Carson at simeon.carson@americanbar.org;

Many other opportunities are in process, and will be communicated soon.

We would like to thank Clinton R. Mikel, Esquire (Vice-Chair of the eHealth IG, Partner, The Health Law Partners, P.C.), for creating and sharing this redline publication.
