ABA Harassment Policy

The American Bar Association prohibits verbal, sexual or physical harassment of any kind by any Member, Employee, or Contractor that disrupts another person’s duties or job performance or that creates an intimidating, offensive, abusive or hostile work environment.

It is a violation of the Business Conduct Standards to engage in harassment, including, but not limited to, unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or unwelcome verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature through jokes, e-mails or other forms of communication.

Employees and Contractors are encouraged, but are not required, to inform the harasser that the conduct is unwelcome. Regardless of whether the harasser is directly confronted, Members, Employees and Contractors must promptly report the conduct to the Ethics Office, EthicsPoint and/or Director, Human Resources to permit the ABA to investigate and address the conduct. If an Employee is involved in the situation, as either the offender or victim, a report must also be made to the Director, Human Resources.
