Speakers
Karen Summerville, an experienced Legal Career Counselor, is the founder of Seattle-based Legal Career Management. She previously practiced commercial litigation, becoming a partner at Betts, Patterson & Mines and participating in the firm’s associate hiring and training. She then became Vice President of Client Relations with Lee Hecht Harrison, an outplacement and career consulting firm. In addition to presenting frequent workshops, Karen’s column, “Managing Your Legal Career,” is a regular feature of the King County Bar Bulletin. She is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Law, where she has also served as the Interim Director of UW Law School Career Services, and earned her BS summa cum laude from the University of Nebraska.
John Mitchell is a long-time Executive Coach and a recognized expert in lawyer leadership and development issues. A former Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity International and “dirt law” litigator at Rudnick & Wolfe (now DLA Piper), John is an active leader of the ABA Law Practice Division and for diversity initiatives across the profession. He is also involved in nonprofit work, is a frequent public speaker, and a versatile workshop facilitator. John’s degrees were all earned at Northwestern, hence the Purple Coach moniker. He holds a Kellogg MBA, a JD, and a BS in Communication Studies.
