Morocco Background

The ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) launched its Morocco program in 2004. Current programs include work with key government and civil society stakeholders to strengthen the professionalism of the judiciary and of lawyers, to build institutional safeguards against corruption and to develop alternatives to detention for minors in conflict with the law. These programs are funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and its Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.

Previously, and with funding from the Embassy of the Netherlands, the U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative and the U.S. Agency for International Development, ABA ROLI helped establish a human rights legal clinic, supported Moroccan women legal professionals, promoted women’s rights, and built the professional skills of young lawyers.
