ABA ROLI Celebrates 12 Years in Serbia
August 2009
On February 23, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) celebrated 12 years of programming in Serbia. ABA ROLI Director Rob Boone, U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Cameron Munter, U.S. Court of Appeals Judge for the D.C. Circuit Thomas Griffith, local partners and members of the donor community attended the event.
Over the years, ABA ROLI has run initiatives that included anti-corruption public service campaigns, mediation courses, judicial capacity trainings and e-learning programs. ABA ROLI has been well-positioned to affect important Serbian legislative initiatives over the years, and has had a direct impact on law school education, new legislation, and legal professional reform through its cooperation with local partners.
ABA ROLI has provided a consultative and comparative approach to technical assistance, building local capacity by relying on the professional exchange between colleagues across the legal profession.
This celebration was bittersweet as it coincided with preparations to close the Serbia office. However, legacy organizations and partners—including the Judges’ Association of Serbia, the Prosecutors’ Association of Serbia, the Magistrates’ Association of Serbia and the Young Lawyers’ Association of Serbia—remain dedicated to the promotion of rule of law in the country for years to come.
ABA ROLI would like to thank all its local partners in Serbia who have contributed to growing a vibrant community of stakeholders striving for rule of law reform. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to future fruitful cooperation as we continue to implement additional programs in the country.
