ABA Helps Formulate Kosovo Judges Association (KJA) Strategic Plan & Organizational Assessment

October 10, 2007

On August 31, 2007, the Kosovo Judge’s Association’s (KJA’s) Managerial Board unanimously approved their Strategic Plan for 2007 to 2009.  The ABA Rule of Law Initiative contributed to the development, refinement and final publication of the plan which sets out the values, principles and most importantly, the mission and goals of the KJA for the next two years. The plan also defines the priorities, activities and projects that KJA will implementduring this period.

ABA ROLI funded the creation of the KJA in 2001, and continues to work closely with the organization as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthenlegal professional associations in Kosovo.  As part of this work, the Initiative conducted an organizational assessment of the KJA this year. The purpose of the assessment is to identify the relative strengths andweaknesses of the KJA, to document its progress to date, and to set for thre commendations and proposals for improvement.  Kosovo Country Director David Sip drafted the assessment based on interviews with more than 40 judges from all parts of Kosovo.

“With the completion of the Assessment and the adoption of the Strategic Plan, KJA is in a better position to identify the necessary legal and organizational reforms to improve the capacity of the organization and to identify and implement more effectively the organization’s projects,” explained David Sip.
