New Career Center Helps Improve Students’ Post-Graduation Opportunities

November 2010

In September, the University of Pristina Faculty of Law, with the ABA Rule of Law Initiative’s (ABA ROLI’s) support, launched a career center. The center helps students prepare for the increasingly competitive job market by reviewing resumes, providing job seminars and placing them for internship with localorganizations.

Speaking to a crowd of 500 law students in October, Fatbardha Abazi, the center coordinator, said that in addition to providing students with access to employer- and practical skills-related information, the center will advise students on choosing career paths and on maximizing their opportunities in a limited job market.

Students are already taking advantage of the services: since its opening, about 250 students have visited the center; by early November, more than 200 students had utilized the center to sign up for the Yahoo group that providesupdates on employment, internship and training opportunities; about 150students have received assistance drafting their resume and cover letter; and24 students have received internship or job offers.

ABA ROLI, with the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development, provides the center with financial and technical assistance. At the end of theacademic year, the Faculty of Law will assume full responsibility for the center, which is forging relations with similar centers at Kosovo’s private universities and in the region.
