The ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) successfully completed the country’s sixth national moot court in Bosnia and Herzegovina on December 8, 2007. The competition simulated a hearing before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Students argued a hypothetical case based on Article Six of the European Convention on Human Rights (Right to Fair Trial), in relation to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Criminal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure.
All eight law schools throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina convened at Mostar Law Faculty, where the competition was held. Each school brought two teams, one for the appellant’s side of the case and one for the respondent’s. A panel of professors, judges, attorneys, prosecutors and ombudsmen served as judges for the competition. In the eyes of the panel, a team from Tuzla Law Faculty won the competition for its well delivered respondent position.
As part of ABA ROLI’s mission to increase sustainability and local ownership of the moot court program in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was decided that the host and organizer of next year’s moot court competition will be East Sarajevo Law Faculty.
