February 2009
On January 26, 2009, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) in Armenia launched the country’s first website for legal clinics. Thanks to efforts by ABA ROLI’s legal education reform team, Armenian legal clinics, law students, professors and the public are able to obtain information on the clinics’ activities, on pro bono legal services and on legal career opportunities electronically. The website also offers online legal consultations for Armenian citizens.
The website consolidates information from four Armenian legal clinics. It provides details on clinic activities, public events and staff. It also offers contact information for Yerevan State University Legal Clinic, Gyumri Progress University Legal Clinic, Legal Clinic of Gavar State University and Syunik Civil Society Development Center Legal Clinic.
The website also serves as an online resource for students, academics, practitioners and attorneys. It features an electronic library that includes legal newsletters, articles and legislation.
The site’s “online hotline” allows people to get free, confidential and secure legal consultation and service. Through this service, clinic lawyers provide legal consultations within three business days of receiving an “online hotline” request.
In addition, the website—www.legalclinics.am—contains a professional discussion forum. This feature allows for professional exchanges and provides networking opportunities for attorneys, legal clinicians, law professors and law students.
