Armenia’s Young Advocates Committee Organizes Law-Day Events, Connects Legal Professionals with Indigent Citizens

June 2012

Starting in October 2011, the Young Advocates Committee of the Armenian Chamber of Advocates—the country’s bar association—has been organizing law-day events both in the capital Yerevan and in the regions to connect those Armenian citizens with little-to-no access to legal services and volunteer legal professionals. Since October, more than 70 pro bono advocates have assisted nearly 200 people in need of legal counseling on a variety of civil issues, including property rights, inheritance, wills and contracts.

The ABA Rule of Law Initiative’s (ABA ROLI’s) local partners, including the Public Defender’s Office, the Chamber of Advocates and other non-governmental organizations, have supported the law-day events by hosting the events in their facilities at no charge. ABA ROLI launched the law-day events in 2009.
