Philippine Intellectual Property Office Recognizes ABA ROLI

October 2014

On October 20, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) presented the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) with a plaque recognizing it as an Intellectual Property Champion. Judge Bernice Donald, member of the American Bar Association’s Board of Delegates, accepted the award on behalf of ABA ROLI at a Manila event, which was attended by judges and intellectual property officials from 15 countries.

ABA ROLI has been working closely with IPOPHL, the Philippine Supreme Court and the Philippine Judicial Academy in developing and implementing training programs for trial court judges and court of appeals justices. Among other milestones, in May 2014, the Philippines was removed from the U.S. Trade Representative Watch List for its accomplishments in upholding intellectual property rights.
