A screening of “My Cousin Vinny” kicked-off the Legal Movie Series, which is held twice monthly on Saturday afternoons at the Legal Skills Center, located in the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law at the University of Liberia and operated by the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI).
Law students, along with ABA ROLI staff and law school faculty, are invited to the series, with an average of 40-50 students attending each film. After each screening, many viewers stay to take part in discussions on the legal issues presented in the films.
After the second film, “A Few Good Men,” Maj. Arthur Ayo-Agihiem, a member of the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps, led a spirited discussion.
“The Major helped explain what was real and what was Hollywood about the way the JAG officers acted in the film,” says Kerry McLean, the ABA ROLI legal trainer helping organize the series. “He also led a great question and answer session on military law and tribunals.”
Other films in the series include “To Kill A Mockingbird” and “12 Angry Men.” The series started in mid-March.
