2007 Forum on the African Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA)

06.11.2007

Since being signed into law in May 2000, the African Growth and Opportunity Act, or AGOA, has increased U.S.-Africa trade to more than $43 billion by 2005 and has created excitement on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean among businesspeople seeking to increase their income through trade. This trade legislation has been hailed as perhaps the most significant American development initiative.

The ABA has been selected as secretariat for the Civil Society Network to the 2007 AGOA Forum. In this capacity, the ABA will be coordinating the activities of NGOs in America and Africa to present the civil society aspect to the 2007 AGOA Forum.  The Civil Society Network's mission at the 2007 AGOA Forum is to present issues vital to civil society in assessing the progress made by AGOA and its impact on African and American communities.
