In August 2016, the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) awarded Tom Lindley with the 2016 Pro Bono Champion Award. A lawyer at Perkins Coie, Lindley began working with ABA ROLI in 2014, addressing critical environmental problems in China and the threat of pollution to citizens’ basic health and safety. He first served as an expert presenter at a workshop on heavy metal pollution laws and regulations, in addition to providing individual strategy and consultations with ABA ROLI’s grass-roots environmental practice. A year later, Lindley along with a colleague, again worked closely with ABA ROLI’s Beijing office via telecommunication to develop material and curricula for 11 international exchange activities with Chinese counterparts. The following video is an excerpt from his 2016 acceptance speech.
