Era Purnama Sari joined ABA ROLI in October 2022 as a Jakarta-based Program Director. Era's legal career has spanned 13 years dealing with human rights and the environment. She started her career as a public defender at the Indonesian Legal Aid Institute with experience in litigation, community organizing, conflict resolution and policy advocacy. She provides legal aid and advocacy support for civil society, indigenous peoples, sexual and gender minorities, women, people with disabilities, farmers, laborers, fishermen, and the urban poor. Before working with ABA ROLI, Era was Director of the Padang Legal Aid Institute in West Sumatera, Acting Director of LBH Manado in North Sulawesi, and former Deputy Director of Advocacy for all 17 Legal Aid Institute (LBH) offices in Indonesia. In 2021, Era received the SK Trimurti Award from the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) for her work in fighting for human rights. Era has litigated and won numerous environmental and human rights claims for vulnerable groups throughout her career. Era is also a member of the Indigenous Peoples Defence Association (PPMAN). She holds a law degree and a Master of Law degree from Andalas University, Indonesia.
