    ABA Legislative Priorities Survey Will Launch Nov. 14!

    At the end of each Congress, the ABA Governmental Affairs Office (GAO) surveys the entire ABA membership to solicit their views on which ABA policies should be the focus of the Association’s advocacy efforts for the next Congress.

    Advocate of the Month

    We are proud to honor Mark Agrast as our Advocate of the Month for October 2022 for his longtime work on LGBT equality, most recently in drafting and presenting a resolution in support of the Respect for Marriage Act (adopted by the House of Delegates in August 2022). A longtime member of the House, he has served on the Board of Governors and as chair of various ABA entities, including the Commission on Immigration, the Commission on Disability Rights, and the Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice. He has been honored by the ABA with the Robert F. Drinan Award and the Stonewall Award. He has served, most recently, as Executive Director and Executive Vice President of the American Society of International Law and a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice. He is a vice president of the World Justice Project and played a central role in the development of the WJP Rule of Law Index.

    Congress.gov’s Committees Page serves as a directory of committees active in the current congress, with links to information such as committee schedules, legislative activity, and publications as well as videos of meetings and hearings. Each profile page also links to the committee’s House or Senate website, with committee membership and contact information. Users can set up email alerts from Congress.gov for upcoming committee meetings or action on pending legislation.

    About the Washington Letter

    The ABA Washington Letter is a monthly publication produced by the Governmental Affairs Office to report and analyze congressional and executive branch action on legislative issues of interest to the ABA and the legal profession. The newsletter highlights ABA involvement in the federal legislative process and focuses on the association's legislative and governmental priorities and other issues on which the ABA has policy.
