    Evictions Moratorium Facing Court Challenge

    A federal judge’s decision in mid-May to temporarily stay her earlier ruling that would have lifted a federal eviction moratorium is providing a reprieve to low-income renters at risk of being removed from their homes.

    Advocate of the Month

    We are proud to highlight Christopher Brown as the ABA Advocate of the Month for May 2021. Chris is the Deputy Law Director for his hometown, the City of Mansfield, Ohio, where he is primarily engaged in civil matters while also occasionally assisting with the prosecution of crimes. Chris currently serves as Chair of the ABA's Young Lawyers Division and is the Immediate Past-Chair of the OSBA Young Lawyers Section. Chris is a steadfast advocate for student debt forgiveness, and has personally led the effort for more research and action surrounding the issue. He is also a mainstay in congressional meetings with the ABA and plans to work with GAO and YLD on the best strategy for future congressional outreach.

    The ABA Washington Letter is a monthly publication produced by the Governmental Affairs Office to report and analyze congressional and executive branch action on legislative issues of interest to the ABA and the legal profession. The newsletter highlights ABA involvement in the federal legislative process and focuses on the association's legislative and governmental priorities and other issues on which the ABA has policy.
