    ABA Commission on Immigration

    On May 2, 2024, members of the ABA’s Commission on Immigration (COI) and others traveled to Washington, D.C. to advocate for ABA-supported legislation.

    Advocate of the Month

    We are proud to honor Michelle Jacobson as our Advocate of the Month for May 2024. Michelle is the Chair of the ABA Commission on Immigration, which just hosted a successful lobby day. Michelle also serves as Policy Officer to the American Bar Association’s International Law Section. Michelle is a Partner in the Chicago office of Fragomen and has practiced immigration for over 21 years. With extensive experience in corporate immigration law, Michelle provides strategic immigration representation to multiple startup, multinational and Fortune 500 companies. A strong advocate for pro bono work, Michelle assists with asylum, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) cases through the ABA and other nationally recognized pro bono organizations. She routinely assists with TPS, DACA and citizenship workshops.

    Library of Congress Research Guides The Law Library of Congress has over 300 online Research Guides with organized collections of resources on law-related topics. Legal research guides cover federal legislative history and case law, in addition to subject areas such as disability law, Asian studies, and women's history. The “Guide to Law Online” pages contain free online legal materials for U.S. States and Territories as well as laws and court decisions for over 150 Nations of the World organized by jurisdiction. Users can browse the full alphabetical list of Research Guides or search by subject area from the homepage.

    About the Washington Letter

    The ABA Washington Letter is a monthly publication produced by the Governmental Affairs Office to report and analyze congressional and executive branch action on legislative issues of interest to the ABA and the legal profession. The newsletter highlights ABA involvement in the federal legislative process and focuses on the association's legislative and governmental priorities and other issues on which the ABA has policy.
