    Hot Topics in Addressing Gun Violence

    The most significant federal gun legislation in decades was signed into law on June 25 by President Joe Biden after passage last week by the House and the Senate. By a vote of 234-193, the House approved the measure on June 24.

    Advocate of the Month

    Judge Jodi B. Levine is a Federal Administrative Law Judge with the Social Security Administration Office of Hearing Operations. Prior to this position, she served as a Senior Administrative Law Judge with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and was recognized by the Governor of Oklahoma for her exemplary service with a Governor’s Commendation. Judge Levine is a former member of the ABA Board of Governors, past chair of the ABA Judicial Division and its National Conference of the Administrative Law Judiciary, and has held several ABA presidential appointments to standing committees and commissions. She is currently a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Public Education. In 2010, the ABA honored Judge Levine with the Grassroots Advocacy Award for her "Dedication to Public Service and Her Commitment to Equal Justice for All." When Judge Levine is not serving on the bench, volunteering for ABA initiatives, or sharing concerns about the importance of judicial security or access to justice issues with members of Congress, you will likely find her at the ballpark cheering for her beloved Astros.

    The ABA Washington Letter is a monthly publication produced by the Governmental Affairs Office to report and analyze congressional and executive branch action on legislative issues of interest to the ABA and the legal profession. The newsletter highlights ABA involvement in the federal legislative process and focuses on the association's legislative and governmental priorities and other issues on which the ABA has policy.
